Basking Bass

An unexpected “catch”: while out on a local trail for a morning walk to photograph some flowers, I noticed these fishes just beneath the water surface of Lake Hodges.

It looked like they were basking in the morning sun. The reflections of the vegetation in the surrounding hillsides, broken by the gentle ripples on the calm water, added a nice abstract quality. Unfortunately I only had my 105mm macro lens with me that morning so the image is quite heavily cropped.
