Double Trouble

I tried to double down my efforts in understanding English phrases and expression, but it made me double up, so I doubled back.

Over time, English has caused much eye rolling in this non native speaker. Today’s particular eye rolls are brought to you by the following fine expressions:

  • to double DOWN = strengthen (an effort)
  • to double UP or OVER = to fold something in the middle OR to bend over at the waist, either in pain, or laughter!
  • to double BACK = to retreat, or reverse one’s course

Thoughts? Let me hear them.
