Photos from a hike to Morena Butte, starting at Morena County Park. The approach via the Pacific Crest Trail to the actual summit trail is quite long and leads mostly through open chaparral and shrubland, which is beautiful in spring of course, but offers little to no shade. The last part of the summit trail involves some scrambling over granite boulders and route finding. On the 100 peaks list, this is peak number 85.
The views into Hauser Canyon (Wilderness) were particularly lovely, but it was a bright and sunny day, and partially quite hazy – using a longer lens of course exaggerates that problem… (in other words, the light sucked for photography;-). Due to the length of the approach, including a sunrise/sunset is probably not really reasonable (at least as a day hike), so I think I’d like to do this again on a day with some more solid clouds that cast some shade onto the landscape here and there. One day. 🙂
